Company structure
- The company was established in Edinburgh Scotland in February 1999 as a
limited company. Turnover has increased rapidly during these four years, from
only 42 000 pound sterling in the first year of operation to over 130 000
during the last year.
The company is representing a growing number of
veterinary experts, with thorough experience in matters concerning European
veterinary legislation, veterinary public health and supervision in the food
industry.
The following are some of the key services provided by the
company:
- Upgrading of EU agri-food business to EU standards, auditing of food
establishment, verification of compliance, elaboration of plans and
programmes for upgrading. Lectures and seminars on that issue.
- Thorough knowledge of the Aquis Communautaire in the field of Veterinary
Public Health and Animal health.
- Introduction of HACCP and GMP systems in food establishments. Lectures
and seminars in that field.
- Providing software (databases) for assessment of agri-food businesses -
laptops - hand held devices.
- Assessment of official supervision of the food industry including legal
framework, enforcement agencies, laboratories and checks on imports.
Providing transpositions of EU rules and regulations and framework law in
the veterinary field.
- Advice to Third Country governments on compliance with EU third country
rules and regulations concerning export of food of animal origin to the
European Union.
- Animal identification systems, tracing and tracking of animals and
products of animal origin. Providing databases and infrastructure for animal
ID systems.

animal health

The company's director
- The director of Food Control Consultants Ltd., Dr. Ólafur Oddgeirsson,
graduated from the Veterinary Collage in Hannover Germany in 1981. Dr.
Oddgeirsson worked for 10 years for the dairy industry in Iceland and for
almost seven years as a senior officer at the the EFTA Surveillance Authority in Brussels
responsible for checking the implementation and application of the EU veterinary legislation in
the EFTA States. Training was provided by the EU veterinary inspection service
(FVO today) during the first year followed by a continuous close co-operation
and harmonisation between the services.

Expert on meat hygiene and slaughter
technique
- Dr. Volker Thran studied veterinary medicine in Hannover, Germany,
graduating in 1964. Continuing education included the studies on meat hygiene
and veterinary public health in general followed by examination for becoming a
official at the veterinary services.
After some years at the veterinary
services in the country of Baden-Württemberg in Germany, dr Thran stayed until
recently at the European Commission, responsible for evaluation of
establishment producing food of animal origin. Key qualifications are e.g.
slaughter hygiene and slaughter technique. CV

Expert on food hygiene and internal control system in
the food industry
- Mrs. Irena Gold studied veterinary medicine in Denmark at the Agricultural
and Veterinary University in 1978. After her studies food hygiene has been her
main field of occupation. In recent years she has worked as an international
senior adviser in the field of veterinary public health. She has specialized
in analysing production flows in food processing establishments, with a
particular emphasis on fulfilling European legislation, both from the
structural and operational point of view.
Mrs. Gold has provided
numerous lectures on hygiene issues to the food control Authorities and the
food industry in several different countries, both concerning production
efficiency and legal requirements. For more information please see the

Expert on dairy matters
- Mr. Þórarinn Sveinsson studied Diary science in Norway and graduated with
Master degree in 1977. After his studies he worked for one year at the
University as an assistant teacher and did research on filtration. During most
of 1978 he worked as an assistant project manager/ sales manager on diary
equipment and machinery at the company Landteknikk in Oslo, Norway.
For most of the time after arriving in Iceland Mr Sveinsson has been
the manager of Iceland's second largest dairy plant. He was in charge of
developing a new processing facility in Akureyri and supervised the beginning
of the production at the new site. This plant has around 90 employees,
collects milk from around 250 individual farmers and receives between 20 to 25
mill. litre milk annually. At present Mr. Sveinsson is contracted by the Food
Science division at the University of Akureyri.
